Hi Alan,

Charles Parry's Essay mentions:-

"In the year 1809 there were a few Baptists and Independents worshipping
together at Penycae. They held their meetings in the house of William
Phillips Bunches Hill which was on the property of Thomas Llewellyn a
little below the old farm Penycae and ministers of the two denominations
preached to them occasionally. These ministers were David Thomas
Penmain (Independent) and Philip Rees (Baptist). The members of this
little church were 13 in number"

The Independents were:- Wm Phillips and Wife, John Cobman and Wife
Wm Jacob and Anne Morgan.

"In 1812 Wm Shadrach Davies (Independent) Harri Harris, Blaenau, and
David Thomas Penmain, ministers agreed to attend this place monthly.
In the year 1817 the following persons were added to the little church
Daniel Thomas and Wife, Samuel Thomas and Wife, Independents."

"In this year 1817 the Independents moved to the Carpenters shop near
the old Boring Mill, where together with holding their religious
services they also kept a Sunday School."

"The independents continued to hold their services in this old
Carpenters Shop until 1821, when they removed thence to James Miles'
School Room near Bon-y-dderwen (or Queen's Square) and the following
ministers preached to them there"

I don't know if this helps you in your quest Alan, but it would seem the
answer lies in the above. Baptism details may not be able to be found
as yet nothing earlier than 1821 has been found to date or deposited in
Gwent Archives. We live in hope;))

The earliest baptisms that I have were for Carmel Welsh Independent,
Beaufort are 1821-1837.

best regards
