Transcription errors - oh my! I think I posted this one before, but it's a
classic. In the 1871 I found my g-grandmother, Sarah Jones, transcribed as
Sarah Janes, birthplace Ebbw Vale, transcribed as Abburle, visiting her
grandmother, Sarah Fear, transcribed as Sarah Pear. I knew I had the
correct listing by the location, Publow, Somerset, and there were others in
the household I recognized.
Kathy, I hope your weather cools down a tad the first week in June. I'm
taking two of my grandchildren to Disney! I know it's usually starting to
get hot that time of year, but we wanted to wait until school was out.

Yes, I discovered the same thing last night. And I had the same feeling --
that it is not 100% complete. Using the Origins.net 1841 Monmouthshire
census, I have found certain families that I have yet to find on the
Ancestry.com version. I'm sure they're doing a 'soft' testing at the moment
and may not have loaded all the data. Or else, as you say, the index is bad
due to poor transcribing. Imagine looking for Benjamin JONES in 1851 - such
a common surname - and having his surname indexed as JANY!
