Hi Ann
I hope you don't mind me asking but are your Jewish ancestry from the West
Country/South Wales?

You might think this sounds strange, some people have, but apparently I'm
missing the Jewish link in the family and I was told this by a spiritualist
reader! Yes I know I shouldn't take too much notice but it has made me
curious.
Apparently someone in the family married into the Jewish faith and because
the female was jewish, the children were brought up in the Christian faith
(or the other way round,I forget-is there a "rule"). Anyway because the
children were not brought up in the jewish faith there was a huge family
rift which was never reconciled. I've looked into possible lines but I
don't really know what to look for. One thing is the BEER surname which to
me sounded possibly german? In my Jones line I've noticed names like
Israel.
I told my mother the story and she laughed and said "Shalom" which is what
her father always used to say to her when she was a child! She said it was
because of her Roman nose which tends to be a BEER family trait.

You're going to think this probably very strange and I wouldn't have dreamt
of putting it on the list but they do say to explore every avenue and every
family story!!

What do you think? I've looked at some Jewish genealogy websites but had no
luck as I don't really know what I'm looking for.

Let me know what you think!
Kind Regards
David

It was called "Look Up Your Genes" and was on BBC2W the digital channel for
wales.

My little bit was about my great grandmother and my Jewish ancestry. It was
a great experience and took two days to film even though my bit was only
about seven minutes long. If anyone ever gets the chance to do it then go
for it, I had a great time AND learnt a bit along the way too.

Ann
