Subject: Re: [MON] MARY EVANS: Occupation of "Fireman"
Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2006 09:41:20 EST
To Barbara, Steve, and all others who helped in the quest to find my
GGrandmother, Mary Ann Evans (d/o Evan Evans and Mary formerly Joshua), know that
she has finally been located and I just received her birth certificate. She
was b. 14 Oct 1841 in Garndiffaith, Parish of Trevethin, District of Pontypool,
County of Monmouthshire. She was two years older than she thought she was
(or, in any event, older than the 1843 birth date she gave in the 1900 US
Census). Evan's occupation is given on her birth certificate as "Fireman", as it
was on her marriage certificate 21 years later.
One of life's little victories.
Now, on to the task of tracing her birth family. Nothing yet has been easy
about this woman, and I do not expect that to change.
Best regards,
Cecil
