I am appealing to Listers who have knowledge of Aberystruth local
history/geography to help identify the location of the following addresses:
Wimberry Row (aka Whimbery)
Shrubbery Row
Mount Pleasant
Hill Side
Dab-y-Garn
Bumble Hole
Road Sides
Chapel Ally (sic)
Main Road
- British School
-Public House
-Berea Independent Chapel
-Kings Head
-Public House Forge Hammer
-Rising Sun Inn
In the order named, these were the places covered in Enumeration District
(ED) 13 of Aberystruth in the Wales Census of 1861. Sadly, A2A does not
provide a written description of the territory of that ED as it is supposed to. I
have had only limited success trying to find the addresses in streetmap.com
and multimap.com. What I did find indicates they were in or near Blaina.
It is important for me to establish where they were, because my
GGrandparents (Mary Evans and William Townsend) were among those enumerated in ED 13 (the
Bumble Hole section, RG9/3997/240/Household 50) and if it is in Blaina, it
will explain an otherwise-inexplicable event in their lives, namely their
marriage in nearby Nanty Glo the following year.
Best regards,
Cecil
