Thanks a million Liz, it is so hard over here in Western Australia to
know where to find things. My great grandfather Abraham James according
to the Raglan Parish records was born in 1833, (I thought Pontypridd).
His father was Charles James (Blacksmith) born in Llanellan Monmouth??
Died 1860 buried Raglan (Parish records) & Ann nee Farr baptised Raglan
bet 1801-1802 died 1850 Raglan (Parish Records) (daughter of John Farr &
Eliza). I have that information from the census & parish records. I do
not know what happened to the rest of the family. I have the names of
his brother and sisters, Elizabeth bp1816 Raglan (married 1839 Raglan
Thomas Lane), Catherine bp1818, Ann bp1820, Mary Annbp1823, Sarah bp
1825 d.1833, Margaret bp1828, William bp 1832. I don't have a clue what
happened to them all or who were the parents of Charles James. My Great
Grand father (Abraham) was convicted in Monmouth on 26.3.1851 of Robbery
with Violence and was transported to the Colony of Western Australia
arriving 1.8.1852 per the vessel "William Jardine" I really would like
to get a copy of his conviction. Some kind person over you way told me
to check the "Cambrian Index" which I did without any luck. If someone
with knowledge of how & where I can write to and how much money to
include to obtain a copy of his conviction that would be good. I suppose
I could go through a researcher but I am a pensioner. Abraham had a
previous conviction he stole potatoes at USK, but that is all I know-
Sorry about the lengthy letter but I thought I should include all I
know. Hope you can help me Liz I appreciate your offer. There were a lot
of Welsh people who came here both as free settlers and as convicts and
if anyone over there is looking for a family member, I have been a
volunteer historian for 35 years and we have compiled books on settlers
& convicts to the Great War. I would be happy to look things up free of
charge for people from Monmouthshire- Jan
