A certificate relating to a marriage at Trevethin in
1856 shows that the groomÂ’s father's occupation was a
"Stock Taker". Such an occupation in modern times
would refer to someone taking stock for monetary
evaluation. As the father of the groom was illiterate
there has to be another meaning -- does anyone have
any knowledge of the function of a "stock taker" in
1856?
Regards
Peter
