Many thanks for the info and ideas sent on and off list .
Hewson/Williams.
We have been looking off and on for 5 years so far so I knew it would not be
easy but one lives in hope. There are so few consistent records and so much
'disinformation' about them that I have wondered whether there was some
secret history about my gt grandparents, not just the French connection I
was told about and which coild be a false trail. Furthermore my grandfather
( who eloped with my grandmother while teenagers) was adept at using aliases
and ducking and diving etc so I wondered if it ran in the family!
If anyone has any ideas as to how to crack this problem please let me know.
Finding Work C19th
I guess it would have to be newspapers or a journeyman mason in the ancient
tradition of setting off with only tools of the trade and clothes which gave
rise to the term.
Would newspapers offer work on the other side of the country?
