The Sons and Daughters "Light Up" The Electric City
with the release of
Dreams Across the Divide: Stories of The Montana Pioneers
By Linda Wostrel, Editor
Over the past three plus years you have read about the progress of the
Heritage Book honoring our Pioneer ancestors. Eighty-nine of you submitted
your Pioneer stories and historical photos " working with me through
several edits to ensure we have the most accurate, insightful stories that
will honor our ancestors who helped develop and define Montana. Without
your support and submissions, this book would not have been possible. A big
"thank you" to all of you!
On May 12, Dale Burk, publisher of Stoneydale Press Publishing Company and
I provided a proposal to the Society Board for review and action. The Board
voted to move forward with the publishing efforts and when you read this
article, the book content will be at the printer " working towards a
release date of early August " in time for our meeting in Great Falls.
The significance of the book release is far-reaching. Not since the Society
of Montana Pioneers, Vol. 1, published in 1899 has a collection of
remembrances been published and made available to the public about our
Pioneer ancestors. Mr. Burk has been getting positive feedback from his
distribution channels and feels that both the hard and soft back books from
the first printing will go quickly.
This book will be of historical significance in Montana for its 1)
official, historical listing of Pioneers, 2) authentic, historical,
insightful collection of 89 Pioneers stories, 3) excellent collection of
Montana historical photos (220+), 4) first-hand information from Hon. W. Y.
Pemberton on the Pioneer Courts and 5) the overview of the Society (1884 to
today) and its contribution to Montana.
In addition, with the endorsement letter from the Governor of Montana, a
foreword by Stephen Ambrose, Mike Logan's Montana Is' poem, and Bob
Morgan's contribution of illustrations, endorsement and painting to be used
for the cover, the public will be interested in reading Dreams Across the
Divide and adding this historical book to their libraries.
The release of this book is very exciting as the main vision and goal of
the founding members of the Society of Montana Pioneers was to band
together to collect and publish their remembrances to keep the Pioneer
stories and memories alive. We are indeed following their directive through
the publishing of this book."
As we celebrate the release of Dreams Across the Divide at this year's
meeting, I strongly urge you to attend and participate in the celebration.
I have asked the Great Falls meeting committee to allow a 2 hour timeslot
for our book-signing event on Friday, August 17 - 6:30PM at the Ryan Dam
Picnic site. Dale Burk is working with a local bookstore and plans to have
TV and newspaper coverage of the event. We are asking Friday night
attendees to be in period dress and bring an artifact of your Montana
Pioneer ancestor and plan to share a story about the item/Pioneer. You
won't want to miss this exciting celebration and time of sharing!
Books are selling fast. Please send in your book order request as soon as
possible to ensure you can pick up your books at the August meeting. In the
event you are unable to attend the Great Falls event, you can have books
sent to you as outlined in another section of the Pick and Shovel. We will
have a table set up at the Ponderosa Inn on Saturday to handle book sales
for both members and the general public.
Where could you find a more unique birthday, anniversary or Christmas gift
for your family members? Plan to provide them with a copy of Dreams Across
the Divide - upcoming generations will be grateful to have a first-printing
addition!
Let's all celebrate our Pioneer heritage and participate in this year's
meeting. It will be a meeting that you will never forget. The Sons and
Daughters will truly "light up" the Electric City this year! Please come
and be a part of this historic event.
What an exciting, rewarding time for the Sons and Daughters of Montana
Pioneers!
I look forward to seeing you in Great Falls.

Subject:[MONTANA-L] book "Dreams Across the Divide"

About mid summer I heard a tv news report of a new Montana book out by
the name of "Dreams Across the Divide" I did not catch the name of the
group or person who did this book and would like to get a further review
of it, and possibly order it.
Can anyone on the list tell me who to contact for more information?
I think the news cast originated in Helena.
