Subject: Help - trying to find information about a death
Date: Thu, 15 Apr 2004 13:44:08 -0500

My question may be too broad to answer, but I'm not sure where else to
turn for a possible lead to a brick wall.

My g-g-grandmother (a Norwegian immigrant) and her children homesteaded
in Burke Co., ND. One of her sons, Jacob LANGEDAHL, died November 11,
1906. From family information, I have learned he died "somewhere in
Western Montana while working". Of course the state of Montana's death
record index does not start until the following year. He is buried in
Columbus, Burke Co., ND, but unfortunately there are no surviving copies
of the newspaper for that year in Columbus, ND to help with my search
nor is there a death record since he died in Montana.

I wondered what type of work he would have been doing in Montana. (farm
labor, logging, railroad??). Are there certain counties I could "rule
out" or would have more of a chance of having immigrant workers? I know
he was in ND in 1900 from census records. I am looking for any
information that may help me or anyone that may have access to county
courthouse death index records for 1906 that they could check for me.

Thank you,
Laurie Taylor
