Ok this may be an odd question, but I've been wondering this for a while.
How could a Canadian citizen fight in the American Civil War? My Great
Grandfather came from England, lived in Canada, and joined the Army in the
Americas to fight for the North in the Civil War. HOW? I always thought
you had to be an American to fight in an American War. Someone please help
me understand this.
