Message Board Post:
These are actually two different surnames with different origins.
SHOCKEY is from the German surname SCHACKE.
SHOCKLEY is from England.
Every SHOCKEY who that I am aware of who has proven their ancestral line all lead back to one of the first six sons of John Christopher Shockey, aka Johann Christoffel Schacke who arrived in America from Germany Sept. 10, 1737 on the "Snow" Molly.
There are some who claim that there are people using the SHOCKEY surname that are members of the Shockey Indian Tribe. To date none that have made this claim has presented any proof of this or any ancestral line that can be checked.
The nation wide Shockey Family Fellowship is preparing to start a DNA project shortly. Anyone with the surname or close variation will be welcome to take part. This will determine if the research into the Shockey surname started 54 years ago by Ralph Shockey and still being continued by his wife Marie and several of us who are helping to continue this search has found the correct answers.
Lesley L Shockey
