Hello Kathy,
I do not know if it is the same one.
I have an Enoch Mathes in my records.
Another Mathes researcher has the following:
Enoch Mathes (English spelling for Mathews)
B about Feb 18, 1832
Son of William Mathes (of Wapello Co., Iowa) William was B about 1786 in
England and died in St. Louis, MO in 1863. Thamer Rogers B about 1808 in KY.
They married in Dec 24, 1816 in Clermont Co., Ohio. William remarried in
1841.
Sarah (Mathes) Bolander obit dated 1887 says Enoch Mathes of "Republic Co.,
Kansas.
She is the daughter of William and Thamer (Rogers) Mathes.
The wife of Rev Henry William Bolander Sr.
Sarah Mathes and Rev Henry William Bolander came to Putnam Co., Mo between
1857 - 1860.
Good Luck,
Debbie Freeman

My Putnam County family is the mysterious, disappearing HAYES Family.
My grandfather was Fred McKinley Hayes, son of William Hayes and Flora
Mathews.
William was the son of Samuel Hayes and Betty Terrell.
Flora was the daughter of Enoch Mathews and Susanne Pickinpaugh.
William, Flora and youngest daughter Elsie were killed in the 27 April 1899
tornado.
Fred and older sister Mayme were then raised (but not adopted) by a Brantly
family.
Several unsolved stories about this family! Namely, Grampa Fred.
Also in the surrounding counties were the other side: Reid, Golden, & Moore
families.
