Here I am again.

I've been interested in the mentions of the Bates family(ies). My husband
is a descendant of the second husband of Bessie Ann McCOY who first married
Andrew W. "Andy" BATES, 15 Sep 1907. Was Andy the son of John T. Bates and
Saloma PROFFITT? Here is a what I have tentatively put together, but am
going on census and cemetery records, and some other, more questionable
sources.

John T. Bates, b. 25 Dec 1859, Missouri; d. 29 Jan 1936 Missouri; s/o David
Bates and Mary Ann PETTY. He married Saloma C. Proffitt. She was b. 4 Jan
1857; d. 1944. She was the d/o William Jordan Proffitt and Margaret F. PRIEST.

Possible children:

1. Arthur T. Bates, b. 1885; d. 1936
2. Arley F. Bates, b. 1887; d. 1951, m. Iola Mae CREASON (1889-1974)
3. Andrew W. "Andy" Bates, b. 23 Jul 1889; d. 3 Jan 1908, Ray Co.,
Missouri, bur. Southpoint Cemetery; m. Bessie Ann McCOY (1892-1920) 15 Sep 1907
4. Lorraine Bates, b. 20 Jul 1899; d. 1 Apr 1909

My notes say "Speculative parents and children of Andy W. Bates. All buried
in Southpoint Cemetery, Ray Co., MO. In same vicinity are stones for:

Millie E. Bates, 11 Apr 1870/Robert H. Bates, 19 Aug 1853 (same stone).
Could this be a brother of John T. Bates?

Truman Bates, 1910 Another son of John T. and Saloma?

'L.R.B.' apparently another Bates, but who? and why only initials?"

Someone mentioned a Vernon Bates, would he fit in this family. If so, how?

Andy and Bessie had a son, Andrew McCoy Bates (1908-1969), b. after Andy
died. After Andy died, Bessie married my husband's grandfather, Bovard ARNOLD.

Thanks for any help.

Judy Arnold
