hi carol and all,
i had to laugh when i saw the list of william's children. my ggggrandfather
was certainly prolific!!! makes me tired just looking at the list. :)
i think this is definitely our william on the 1880 census. about whether
catherine is charity, i don't know. it could be or could be yet another wife.
your list was:
Tilmore W. M. 9 Son Tn. Tn. Tn. (I think the name is
Tillman)
William W. M. 7 Son Tn. Tn. Tn.
Joseph W. M. 8 Son Tn. Tn. Tn.
Mary W. F. 6 Daug. Tn. Tn.
Tn.
Isaac W. M. 6 Son. Tn. Tn.
Tn.
Cordelia W. F. 4 Daug Tn. Tn. Tn.
Satchie W. F. 2 Daug Tn. Tn. Tn.
Rufus W. M. 1/12 May Son Tn. Tn. Tn...
i have:
tilmond born 1871 in tenn
cordelia born 1876 in mo.
rufus born 1880 in mo.
daniel c. born 1882 in mo.
lillie born 1884 in mo
samuel c. born 1888 in mo
george w. born 1892 in mo.
as you can see, i have some that you don't have and you have some that i
don't have. but i think there are enough similarities to know this is "our"
william. and starting with daniel c. the births were after the 1880 census.
i have william's birth date 1827 also. his first wife was elvira (my
ggggrandmother).
their children were emma and matilda (my gggrandmother)
second wife was amanda (believed to be mantooth) this could have been how
the mantooth mistake happened about mary "polly" morelock as there were a
couple of mantooth's that married humbards.
william and amanda's children were james and mary.
that brings us to rhoda in your list. i have no record of her so i haven't a
clue who her mother was.
the next thing that's of interest to me is that ALL those children were
listed in the 1880 census. i know matilda was married to daniel rutherford
at that time and they had three children. if matilda (tilda) was living
there, why were her husband and children not listed? i know when they all
lived in cocke county, tenn. daniel and matilda lived on a farm next to
william's farm. i'm pretty sure they had their own farm in ray county also.
very strange.
carol, if you want any more information about william let me know..IF i know,
i will be happy to forward it. if i don't know, i am in touch with someone
who has been researching humbards for many years. i'm sure she could be of
help to you.
and thanks for the 1880 census information you sent. cordelia was on the
list. when i was a little girl (a long time ago) a woman we called "aunt
cordie" used to come to visit every once in a while. i never knew who she
was exactly...i think i know now :)
madge
ps as i look over the list of his children again, i notice daniel c (perhaps
named after matilda's husband) and samuel (perhaps named after his sister,
mary's husband?
