Thank you Howard for transcribing the entries of the 1881 Census around the
elusive Berryleys in Boharm.
As you suggested that the dwelling may have disappeared after 1881, it may
have been "overun" by the Forestry Commision many years ago and and recall
that it was extensively cut down during WW II.
When all else fails, the only solution is to call up the Old Maps at
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.htm and search the suspect area frame by
frame. I have just completed the search and found the Berryleys that Judy in
OZ has been inquiring about. Believe it or not, it WAS located no more than
4 or 5 hundred yards north west of my old home - Belnagarrow! It can be
readily accessed by going to the above website and keying in the
co-ordinates 331669,847557 in the Search Box and the Co-ordinate radio
button and Berryleys should appear in the centre of the frame. Enlarge the
frame by going to No. 2 - move the frame over slightly to the right and
Belnagarrow should appear. You will also see on the map above Belnagarrow
the Mill Lead. The remnants of the sluice from the mill dam to allow the
water to drive the Belnagarrow mill can still be seen to this very day.
You can get one of the best views in upper Banffshire up the Spey Valley
towards Ben Rinnes and the Fiddich Valley towards Dufftown together with the
Buck in the Cabrach in the distance.
Regards to all who participated in this exchange and good luck with your
research Judy! Enjoy your visit???
