Hello Linda
I was in Elgin yesterday and I had a look at the valuation rolls.
293 High Street, Elgin is listed as a house only. The proprietor at the time
was the executors of Mrs Thomina Anderson and the tenant occupier in both
1926-7 and 1935-6 was Mrs James Macdonald. I did not notice Thomas Sangster
mentioned in connection with that or adjacent properties.
37 High Street, Forres is listed as a shop. The proprietor in 1932-33 was
James Duncan, mechanic, 84b High Street, Forres and the tenant occupier was
Lewis S Duncan, dairyman. I did not notice Thomas Sangster mentioned in
connection with that or adjacent properties.
57 Findhorn is listed as a house. In 1918-19 the tenant occupier was James
Davie, salmon fisher. In 1931-32 the proprietor was the heirs of the late
Alexander McGregor, Africa, and the house was unoccupied and uninhabitable.
I did not notice Thomas Sangster mentioned in connection with that or
adjacent properties.
The only other reference I found to Thomas Sangster was that supplied by you
to the index in the Local Heritage Centre.
I don't know where they are now, but there were shelves of old registers of
electors in the basement of Woodhill House at one time. The relevant ones
are not available in Grant Lodge. You are better placed than I am to look
for the ones which may still be in Aberdeen.
Best wishes
Anne
