Michael,
I just had a hunch and thought I would have a look at the batches for
Kirkmichael, Banffshire. I found this interesting:
Alexander Spence christened
13 AUG 1812
Kirkmichael,
Banffshire, Scotland to John Spence and Margaret McIntosh
It may possibly have no relationship to you but it does indicate that there
were Spences in the area. I doubt that this one was Catholic though, not
with an entry in the OPR.
