Subject: [MORAY] When were they married?
Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 10:53:07 EDT
My queery is: When were William Innes and Margaret Grant married?
N.B. I have a picture of his tombstone in Kirkmichael Church yard.
Details: William b: 25 Feb. 1822, c: 28 Feb.1822 d: 25 Jul.1900
Margaret b: about 1826 d: 22 May 1859 aged 33 years ( as
indicated on the tombstone )
According to the IGI they had the following children: Margaret b:
13 Mar.1851 c: 22 Mar.
1851, William b: 30 May 1853 c: 30 May 1853, Janet b: 25 Apr.
1855, Margaret b: 25
Apr.1859, Innes child: b:8 Nov.1860 ( all in Inver Avon )
When I try to look-up their marriage in the IGI it shows 1826 and 1806.
Impossible
William re-married on the 13 Sept. 1860 to Margaret Shaw. The marriage
extract shows that William was 39 years of age at this wedding and that he was a
farmer and also a widower
( Margaret his first wife ) How come I was able to get a full marriage
extract for 1860 through the IGI. Was it a mistake?
I believe that the government took over the listings of marriages in 1848.
Any help would be appreciated.
William
