MANUFACTURER OF DALLAS TWEEDS
Death of Mr. John Menzies of the Wool Mills.

Great regret is felt in the Dallas district at the passing away of Mr.
John Menzies,
senior partner in the firm John Menzies & Son, woolen manufacturer.
Coming from Huntly 44 years ago, Mr. Menzies took over the wool mills,
and he
has built up a business which is noted far and wide for upright dealing and
honest
workmanship. His Dallas tweeds have long been famous for their durability.
Until a few days of his death, which occurred on Sunday, he took a keen
interest
and an active part, in the affairs of the firm.He was much respected for his
straightforwardness, liberality, and integrity of character. A loyal
supporter of the U. P.
Church and an ardent advocate of the temperance cause. He took in his
younger days
an active interest in all political questions. For many years he was a
member of the Parish
council, of which he was latterly chairman.
He is survived by his widow [Jane Russell] and a family of three sons and
three
daughters, to whom much sympathy is extended. The eldest son was associated
with him
in the business, the second is in the Civil Service in Trinidad, while the
third is in the employment
of Trinidad Leaseholds, Ltd.
The funeral took place on Wednesday, when there was large and
representative attendance.
The services at the house and at the churchyard were conducted by Rev. A.
Matheson, U. P.
Church and Rev. John L. Brown, Parish Church. [Buried at Dallas]

Jane Russell was my great grandaunt. Her parents were George Russell and
Annie Gilbert.

DEATH OF FORMER ELGIN COUNCILLOR
A former Elgin town councillor, Mr. John Menzies, has died at Cairns,
Queensland, Australia,
[26 July 1948] Mr. Menzies, second son of the late Mr. John Menzies, woolen
manufacturer, Dallas,
emigrated to Australia for health reasons in 1938.
For many years Mr. Menzies lived ibn the West Indies and retired to
Elgin, where he took a keen
interest in the affairs of the town.

Thanks to Ian for the wonderful information. I would like to hear from any
relatives.
