HELLO List, I saw some enquiries about Army records on this list.
My Experience, I knew my chappies name, + 1st foot Regiment, Scots
Royals, and Rough dates, 1840/50.
I went on the Internet to National Archives, England, Click on
Military, and went through several pages, Put in my chappies name,
and up came a brief resume' of his Hist. with a Ref Number, Applied
for his papers, they wrote back with a quote for photo copying, was
reasonable, and after what seem like for ever, (I'm an impatient
researcher) actually about 10 days, -- paid for it with Credit Card.
Up on the screen it all came, was absolutely chuffed. I think they
would do research for you but of course it would cost. He actually
joined in 1831 in Elgin Morayshire, and was retired in 1843 through a
non-combatant accident. But the records were held in England.
Finally he was a private not an officer, so didn't really expect to
find him
So that was my fantastic experience on Army Records.
