Thanks for all of this information. I would have never thought to find Lawrence in the St. Louis poor house.

As for John Ryan (b. abt 1855), I think he was born in OH according the the 1880 census, but John's parents were both born in IRE and I must assume that John's mother was one of the sisters of Lawrence Powers.

Is there a Catholic cemetery in Ripley county, or a source that may list Catholic baptisms, marriages, etc. from that area?

(She was the second wife of Robert McKague - her full name was Mary Ann
McKinney - she is buried at the Macedonia Cemetery among her own family.

Census: There is a John Ryan age 51 on the 1900 census for Ripley Co.
Not sure if it is him. You might take a look at it (go through the
Ripley Co site). Wife Elizabeth, children Mary, Mabel, Joseph, Anna and
Jesse. John b. KY parents b. KY. So may not be him. Im not concerned
about his age here, just his place of birth. Did you say he was born in
Ireland too?
