Austin L. 'Shorty' Kertz

A funeral will be held Monday, November 28tn, 2005 for 82-year-old Austin L. "Shorty" Kertz of Zell, who died today, November 25th at St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis.

He was born September 4th, 1923 in Bloomsdale, the son of Leonard and Rose (Drury) Kertz, who both preceded him in death.

He married Helen A. Buehler-Bahr on July 1st, 1961. She survives in Zell.

He is also survived by two sons and daughters in law, Wayne and Jeannie Bahr of Zell and Rick and Betty Bahr of Zell; three daughters and sons in law, Mary Lee and Daryl Giesler of Zell, Roselee and Donald Buatte of Zell and Connie and Paul Hayden of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rosemarie Kertz and Patricia Kertz.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 150, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2210, Teamsters Local No. 682 and the Men's Sodality of St. Joseph Parish.

He was employed by Bloomsdale Excavating for 31 years.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, November 27th at the Basler Funeral Home. The VFW and Legion will gather at 7 p.m.

A funeral for 82-year-old Austin L. "Shorty" Kertz of Zell will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 28th at the St. Joseph Church in Zell. The Rev. James Hanson will officiate.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to St. Joseph Church
