Alma Smith

Jun 15, 2007 - 20:46:49 CDT

VILLA RIDGE - Alma Bernice (Radford) Smith died April 8, 2007 in Villa
Ridge, Missouri and was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Leadington, Missouri.
She was the daughter of the late Walter L. Radford and Grace D. (Eaton)
Radford and the sister of Charles Radford and the late John Radford.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thomas Earl Smith, her daughter
Karen (Ted) Berger, grandsons Timothy ( Shelli) Meers and Matthew (Nannette)
Meers, two great-granddaughters Soleia and Tehya Meers, son Randy (Fritzi)
Smith, grandsons Nathan and Ethan Smith, and son Phillip (Rebecca) Smith and
grandsons Jacob (Hannah) Smith, Austin Smith and Tyler Smith.

Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker for over 60 years. She was
born in Elvins, Missouri in 1927, and grew up in Flat River. She met Tom 65
years ago when her church youth group went to Elephant Rock State Park for
an Easter outing, and married him two years later just before Tom shipped
overseas in the Army during W.W.II.

While living in Lutesville and Marble Hills, she served as president of the
Federated Women's Club and was instrumental in bringing the first medical
doctor to the area in the 1950s. She mentored women through her work in
Christian Women's Club and church ministries, and she volunteered for
several years as a Pink Lady at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis
caring for newborn babies. She used her creative talents to make and sell
arts and crafts through local craft shows and founded her own company in the
1970s selling "keyfinders" through ladies boutique shops across the country.

Bernice was a generous woman who served God, her husband, and her family
faithfully. She is missed, but we take comfort knowing that she is in
heaven.
