Principals of the public schools will meet in the
board rooms next
Saturday to discuss the best methods of improving
language work in the
primary grades.
Annie Jackson, colored, a widow, 49 yrs old, was
found by the
police sick and destitute at her home, 3217 Hebert
st, and sent today
to the City Hospital.
J Brown of 8015 Dickson st, aged 75 yrs, while
out walking Monday,
after a sick spell, was run over by a horse and
wagon driven by an unknown
man and dangerously injured.
Lizzie Mansfield's house, near 20th and Chestnut
streets, was
robbed yesterday morning of 3 pairs of lace
curtains and a "visitor:
lost a gold watch, an overcoat, $11, and some rare
coin.
The Police Commissioners yesterday dismissed from
the force
Patrolman Teddy Canfield for conduct unbecoming an
officer. The license
of Private Watchman Henry Jacobs was revoked for
intoxication.
The following persons were taken to the
penitentiary today to serve
out sentences: Walter Ahern, assault to kill, 10
yrs and Matt Welsh,
attempted burglary, and William Rohan, assault to
kill, 2 years each.
L D Deake, Superintendent of the State Reform
School for boys at
Boonville, Mo, states that the statement that he
is in St Louis looking
for a boy who escaped from the institution is a
mistake. He is not here,
he states, for any such purpose.
The St Louis College of Pharmacy gave a recption
and supper last
night to its friends and patrons. Prof. J M Good,
dean of the faculty,
was master of cermonies, and toasts were responded
to by Dr O A Wall,
John S Moffitt, Solomon Boehm, Dr H M Shelpley
[ink smudge over first
letter], Edward Mallinckrodt and W C Bohm [ink
smudge over first 2 letters].
State Senator, G A Wurdeman and Representatives
Kessler and
Heidorn left yesterday to attend the Legislature.
They intend to make
an energetic fight to secure the removal of the St
Louis Quarantine
Hospital from the limits of the county. They will
also support a bill
to compel railroad companies to furnish every
passenger a seat.
James Hugo, aged 40 yrs, living with his wife at
1448 O'Fallon
st, was found by the police at 11 o'clock last
night in a helpless
state of intoxication, on 13th st, between Benton
and North Market
streets. He was taken to the 4th District Police
Station to sober up.
This morning hit was found that his left ankle was
sprained and was
sent to his home in the patrol wagon.
