Dear All
Most of the Mounteneys appear to be related to a Norman line which is
provable from the 1100s in Norfolk England.
Before that some think they are related to William the Conqueror and a group
of Vikings including Rollo the Viking who converted to Chritianity and became
the first Duke of Normandy.
There is thought to be a French line of Mounteneys and Some English
Mounteneys who went to Calais who are not to be confused with the "French"
line. One of the set of Mounteneys in Canada have Frenchified their name to
Mounteney from something else. The other Canadian line appear to start in
Ireland but this line is thought to somehow be related to Baron Mounteney of
"Demostenes" fame.
One Mounteney-Jephson was an explorer [see my website below] being involved
in the Irmin Pasha rescue and finding the source of the Nile in Sudan.
I am running the Mounteney One Name Study. Please bear with me as results
are slow in coming but are worth the wait!
The Mounteneys of England have armorial bearings of a bend between six
martlets and are thought to be aligned to the Furnivals the Lords of
Hallamshire in Yorkshire.
Best regards Simon
