Subject: Dr. Rufus Glenn

Dr. Rufus Glenn, age 73, of Lucedale, MS, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009. He
was an ENT Head Neck Surgeon, who practiced medicine in Florida, Africa and his
hometown at George Regional Hospital. Dr. Neel was also a devoted outdoorsman and
conservationist as well as a professional hunter in Africa for fifteen years. He
received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Mississippi
where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He also attended the University of
Texas medical branch, Medical College of Charleston, Guy's Hospital in London,
University of Florida, the University of Malmo, Sueden and San Juan tropical Disease
Hospital. He was a naval Flight Surgeon as well as a professor at the University
Natal, South Africa.
He was the son of Chester and Ena Neel and was preceded in death by his brother Tommy
and his parents. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lucedale.
Survivors include his loving wife and daughters: Lauren, Tracy and Leslie, as well as
his brothers: Al (Martha) and Warren (Annelle). The family will receive friends
Monday, March 16, from 5-8 pm at First United Methodist Church in Lucedale with
service at 11 am Tuesday, March 17, also at the Methodist Church in Lucedale.
Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Alex Lewis, George
McIntosh, Dr. Kevin O'Hea, Malcolm Murphy, Ray Hunter and Dr. Harry Patel. He will
always be remembered by his devoted family and the people he touched throughout his
