James Michael "Mike" Black, the son of Benjamin James and Claudia Emma
Gladney Black, born November 24, 1949, died November 7, 2008. Mike was a
1969 graduate of Magnolia High School where he was a member of the Mighty
Monarch Football Team, playing on the squad of the Dirty Dozen. Michael
contributed two years of service to his country in the United States Army,
serving in the state and aboard. For fifteen years he gave his services to
the City of Moss Point in the capacity of Firefighter. During this tenure he
became the first African American to reach the position of Lieutenant and
felt it was most important to teach the children about fire and safety.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin James Black;
mother-in-law, Barnceal Jones, whom he loved as his second mother; and
brother-in-law, Glennon Squeeky"Jones. Interment: First Baptist Cemetery,
Escatawpa, MS.
