Mississippi woman killed in Iraq
Associated Press - May 5, 2008 6:44 PM ET
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The family of Lance Corp. Casey Casanova of McComb
says she was killed Friday in Iraq.
Casanova, believed to be the first woman from Mississippi to die in combat
in Iraq, was 1 of 4 Marines killed by a roadside bomb that went off near their
vehicle in Anbar Province.
Family members tell WAPT-TV in Jackson she was deployed in January and had
been in the military for two years.
The 22-year-old is 1 of more than 60 military members with strong ties to
Mississippi killed in Iraq or Afghanistan since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist
attacks.
Her body is being flown to Jackson on Thursday and funeral arrangements have
not yet been completed.
