Hi again Brenda,
Yes they were from SC, but the white SIMS Patriarch is from GA.. They moved
to SC by the late 1700's. The VAUGHN's were from SC as well. I have found a
sure VAUGHN/SIMMs connection though. I hope that I word this clearly. John
VAUGHN of Lowndes/Monroe Counties in MS, had a two grand children that
married McElroy's in AK. They were Francis Asberry McCown (son of Nancy
VAUGHN McCOWN, daughter of John VAUGHN) who married Harriet L. McElroy b.
MS.. and Mary E. VAUGHN ( daughter of John N. VAUGHN, son of John VAUGHN)
who married Giles H. McELROY, brother of Harriet L. McELROY.
Harriet and Giles Had a brother named Joseph Wiley McELROY from their
father's second marriage. Joseph McELROY married Elizabeth SIMS. :) They all
appear to have married in AK. Remember there was a group of MS VAUGHNS that
moved to AK and TX in the mid 1800's. This is them. Other VAUGHN'S in the
area were W.W. VAUGHN and Henry Marshall VAUGHN. There were others I will
look up.
NOW, I know for certain that some of the MS VAUGHN slaves were taken to AK
from MS. For instance, Mary E. VAUGHN was the daughter of John N. VAUGHN.
John N. VAUGHN died when his 3 kids were small and his brother W.W. took
custody of them. These kids inherited Slaves when their grandfather John
VAUGHN died in 1862, because it was their father's share. The custodian of
those slaves was W.W. Vaughn, so they more than likely carried the VAUGHN
name. Given that the SIMS, VAUGHNS, McELROYS and McCOWNS were in laws, I am
more than sure that they hired slaves out to the SIMS and that some of those
SIMS Slaves, who probably came with Elizabeth SIMS married VAUGHN slaves and
came back to MS.. Some of the slaves that went to AK with VAUGHNS and
McCOWNS were as follows.
WW VAUGHN
Kindred and Rebecca
Mary E. VAUGHN (McELROY)
Woodard, Frances, Misina (?), Ella and Sophia
Nancy (VAUGHN) McCOWN
Amy (My gggg Grandmother)and her kids Eliza and Eli
Margaret (Her sister)and Lucy (My ggggg Grandmother, Amy and Margaret's
mother. She was from SC and born in 1793.)
Mary (VAUGHN) McCOWN (Polly)
Green (My ggg Grandfather and son of Amy)
Amanda (Green's Sister)
As I said many of them came back to MS by 1870.. I never knew that GREEN was
in AK at all until recently. I will get the ages of all of the slaves so you
can use them to compare. Not much but it gets better. :)
Thanks again,
Jaqui

Thanks Jaqui,
This is great information. I see that some of the Sims in
Monroe co 1870 stated their place of birth as South Carolina.
I'am sure there is a connection with them and my America Vaughn and my Rose
Sims. I just don't know how yet.
Thanks to you I do have a lot more to work with. I will be heading to
the History Commission real soon.
Please keep me informed,I appreciate all your help.
Thanks, Brenda
