Frances,
Maybe I can help a little from my data base.. hope you can follow:
On the 1850 census you will find a NORWOOD family, John W & Nancy (CAPELL or CASSELS was her maiden name), and they were md 21 Mar 1847; before Nancy was a NORWOOD, she was md to a Reuben SMITH b abt 1800 SC and died abt 8 Feb 1840; they apparently had 2 children, Isabella R SMITH abt 1830 and William Plowden SMITH Sr 8 Dec 1833. Reuben is buried in the W P SMITH Cemetery, Mill Creek, Amite Co MS.
>From my notes:
>From EF conveyance book (East Felencia Parish)
Oct 1, 1844 Isabella R Smith w of Delos D. Merrick of Amite Co Ms, Nancy Cassles wid of Reuben Smith and Wm P. Smith joint land owners.
~~
William Plowden SMITH md Louisiana E PERKINS 8 Dec 1853, d/o Lewis PERKINS & Jeanette Adaline BROWN. They had 7 children that I know of and Robert Irving SMITH was the youngest, b 17 Jun 1875; Robert md Katherine Agnes BRAME 8 Feb 1906 EF Parish. Sorry, I don't have any names of any children they may have had (but read on).
~~~
My best guess about a FREEMAN connection is that Reuben SMITH is related to the SMITHs that married FREEMANs, which I have undocumented information that 2 SMITH sisters and 1 SMITH brother all married siblings, children of Isaac FREEMAN & Catherine CROCKETT of SC.
John FREEMAN md Mary SMITH (no dates)
James S FREEMAN md Elizabeth SMITH 10 Apr 1817
Elizabeth FREEMAN md Samuel SMITH 10 May 1821
Reuben SMITH would fit right in with being the right age and in the right place, to be a sibling of these 3 SMITH persons, who I beleive are siblings. I don't know who the parents are of these SMITH persons, but they have been of interest to me, as they have a SC connection and I beleive they are connected to my SC SMITHS, just can not find the right link. Anything you might offer to connect these up would be great.
~~
To further confuse the issue, I have a Billy Joe SMITH, but he (assuming it is a he) is not the s/o William Plowden SMITH, but rather the son of Howard Carl SMITH & Tina "Tiny" THOMPSON. I have 3 children for this couple, but no indication of who they married. Howard Lea b abt 1918; Mildred b abt 1920; and Billy Joe b abt 1924. Howard Carl is my great uncle, and a son of my great grandfather, Joseph McKinney SMITH.
I noted that you did not have a death date for Kate. My information is 1 Jun 1958 and buried Oaklawn Cemetery, Centreville MS.
Hope you can piece something together out of this information. Let me know if anything makes sense with my thinking.
Nancy, I found the Kate Brame/Robert Smith, Jr marriage reference in Freeman
book before you sent me your file. It seemed strange Robert & Kate would
have been in the Freeman book since they lived in the southwest part of
county along the LA line. Thought you might could shed a little light on
the reference. I think yours is probably the correct one.
Thanks,
Frances Phares
