Joan,
Wilford M JENKINS is on the 1850 Amite Co census, age 3 (you can find this census transcribed on line). He is the s/o Richard JENKINS & Louisa MOORE. The other children in this household were:
David 1831; William 1833; James 1835; Joseph 1838; George J 1839; Letha A 1844; Melissa 1845; Wilford M 1847; John S 1850.
It is believed that Melissa md Rufus CAIN 16 Jan 1897. I don't have any information on any of the other children.
It would seem that Richard and Louisa came from South Carolina. There is a William MOORE in the household also, which I suspect was Louisa's father. He was b abt 1775, according to census.
I have tried to connect this Richard JENKINS to my John JENKINS line, but can not find the connection. If Wilford's name was Monroe, that would likely connect them. There is a Franklin Monroe in my JENKINS line.
This family does not seem to appear on the 1860 & 1870 Amite Census, so maybe the whole family moved on to Louisiana or Texas???
As a curiosity, there is a John W MOORE (not John W JENKINS) also on the 1850 Amite Census. He was md to Mary CAIN 17 Nov 1823. I wonder if John W MOORE and Louisa MOORE-JENKINS were siblings, as they lived near each other on census?? John came from SC also. This family also seems to have moved on after 1850.
There is a book, "The JENKINS Genealogy" by J Montgomery Seaver; American Historical-Genealogical Sociaity, 2000 N Broad St, Philadelphia PA. Someone had sent me Xerox copies of the pages pertaining to my JENKINS line from this book. I would be careful about using the information in this book as Gospel. Parts of what was sent to me was not accurate.
Hope this helps, that is all that I can offer. Nancy in OR

Seeking information on Wilfred Monroe Jenkins, reputed to have been from
Amite County Ms. born about 1843-45. Father was a Mississippi riverboat
captain, also owned a plantation/farm. According to family legend, he left
home at the age of 17 with his personal belongings and his cow, joined a
Brister Wagon train going west to Texas. Met and married a Sarah Ellen
Bolgiano, probably in Louisiana. His fathers name was possibly John W.
Jenkins. Would dearly love to have any available data on them. His name is
mistakenly represented in some circles as George. But my grandfather's birth
certificate definitely states his name as Wilfred Monroe Jenkins. So far have
had no luck in tracking him down. He and Sarah had 4 children, Suzie, Stella,
John W. (my grandfather) and George (who was later shot to death by a step
brother at the age of 13. Any help would be deeply appreciated. I understood
from family legend that a Jenkins family book which included Harold Jenkins
aka Conway Twitty was published some years ago and included my branch of
Jenkins. Have been unable to find this book. Any info?? Thanks for your time
and help. Joan
