If I could invite any family member that once lived in Hinds County it would
be my Grandfather. I have never met him or if I did I was to young to
remember it. I know his father was John Alexander Husbands born in Smith CO., MS.
who married Margarete Katherine (Katie) Borah. My Grandfather's name at birth
was Edgar Nathanial Husbands, b. July 22, 1892 in Hinds Co., Jackson, MS. and
he had a brother named Albert. I know nothing more about his family than this
small amount. He died in Tampa, Florida in 1963 and was brought back to
Shelby County, Memphis, TN. by his three sons. He is buried in the Vetrans
Cemetery on Jackson Ave., Memphis, TN. The only other think I know about him is
that he started going by the name of Edward Nathanial Harris at a fairly young
age and legaly changed his name to Edward Nathanial Harris in September of 1924;
by this time he had married my Grandmother and had two sons using the Harris
name. The last information I have is that his mother married a farmer named
Jenkins. My dad remembered his Grandma Jenkins. I would love to just sit with
him and listen to him telling me all he could remember of his life. Why did
he feel the need to change his name? Why did he not come back to visit with
his sons and meet his grandchildren? To me this would be the most special
Thanksgiving I have ever had. Sue
