Coleman's Crossing is in Jefferson County .. it was connected with the Cotton
Bale Battle ... The Coleman's lived in a two story brick house at the
intersection of what is now US HWY 61 and State Hwy 552. At the time of the
battle State Hwy 552 was routed somewhat different than it is now.

The battle started somewhere about woodvine road and Rosswood plantation ...
then proceeded west toward Coleman's crossing. Section 29, Township 10 N,
Range 2 East. A Colored troop of that expedition was almost wiped out and
they are buried on the north side of 552 between Hwy 61 and the Natchez Trace
... actually closer to the Trace. I have an account of this battle from both
the Union and Confederate side. It was Moorman's Battaltion that fought
there against Elliott.

I was honored by the SCV a month ago to speak at their meeting and The Battle
at Coleman's Crossing was my topic.
