There is only one Joshua Hammons in Jackson County in 1840. The census is
located here:
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ms/jackson/census/1840/pg0276.txt

There are no Hammons listed on the 1850 or 1860 Census for Jackson County,
MS. Jackson County is located on the MS Gulf Coast.

There is one Hammon without the "s" on the 1860 for Jefferson. He is George
who is listed as living in Rodney.
