Hi: What I know about these teaching licenses is from my mother--she had a
life-time license to teach first grade in MS schools which was issued in
about 1917. I would suspect that your person did not necessarily attend
college--they had what was called "Normal School" after completing the 8th
grade and these teaching certificates were often issued to persons who
completed the Normal school program and passed a test of some sort. I would
begin by asking MS Archives if they had records from the Dept of Education
from MS during that time period. I know that they have the records from
state hospitals etc for that time period so they likely have any records
that have survived. It is my understanding that many of the state agencies
turned over old records to the Archives. Please let me know if you find
these records-I would like to look for my mother's records also.
BTW-doesn’t your certificate have a letter heading or a signature at the
bottom--I see it says "on file in this office"--usually this indicates that
the name of the office appears somewhere on the paper--up at the top as a
heading or under the signature on the bottom. Kate Mullins

Thank you for your quick reply. The Certificate states:

Teachers State License
#A25 2 Grade
This certifies, that on 6-30 & 7-1-1911 Mrs. E. H. Jackson
was examined Fyette according to law and that her papers written on that day

and now on file in this
office, entitle her to a 2nd Grade State License. with the per cent on each
subject as marked below: (and it goes on with scores)

Upon satisfactory evidence that She possesses a good moral character,
aptness to teach, and ability to govern, we hereby authorize her to teach in

the public shools of the State for a perod of one year from date of this
examination.

In the information held by the state will it show from what college she
graduated? Or any genealogicial information?

Thank you again.
