There are slave schedules for 1855 and 1860. If you can find the rolls
of microfilm for Lauderdale Co. Check the surname McElroy and view the
list of slaves any family by that name may have owned. The slave names
are not given just a brief description. You may need to check several counties
and also counties in Georgia and Alabama. Also do not forget to check deeds
and wills for a family who owned slaves by the names you have listed who
may have been gifted or willed to a child of the owner's family. As to
how your family chose the name McElroy it is up for grabs. Maybe the owner's
family name or perhaps another family that they liked or knew well.
