Message Board Post:
I have posted this message under the Pace Surname message board as well.
My ancestor was Charles Washington McClendon, son of Lewis Bruce McClendon & Sarah Sides. His wife was Martha "Mattie" Bufkin daughter of Isaac Bufkin & Caroline Loper. One of his daughters, Sarah Jane McClendon, married James Willis Pace, son of James Dempsey Pace & Amelia Lucy Gregory. (This is according to a bio in the Falls, TX collection.)
After the war between the states, CW and James Willis along with some other Pace-Bufkin-McClendon family members moved to Texas. James Willis Pace was not only my ancestor's brother-in-law, but also a witness for CW's Confederate Pension file in Texas. One of his daughters then married a Bufkin 1st cousin so these families are all tied together.
Although I do not actually descend from this Pace line, I am interested in finding the names of the children of James Dempsey and Amelia. What I currently have is John Pace killed at Fredericksburg during the war, and William J. Pace who also moved to Texas.
I found Paces next to or near my McClendon family as well as Bufkin and Loper families in Newton County, MS census records. I now have so many Pace, Bufkin, McLendon, McClendon, & Loper names chasing each other, I am having trouble finding which belongs to which.
Any help would be appreciated.
