James J Monroe lived in Newton Co from at least 1838 to 1867, when he died
there. He came from NC where he was born in 1812.
He married Blanche Kelly, born 1823 in GA, in Newton Co in 1842, they had 12
children before she died in 1861.
Sarah Johanna,
James Polk,
Napoleon Bonapart,
Juliette Drinkwater
Caroline,
William Saffold,
John Marshall and Joseph Storey (twins)
Barney Archibald
Blanche Narcissa
Robert Beauregard
Jefferson Davis.

James J Monroe married second a Mrs Glass in 1861/2, who already had a son
Tom.
James J and Mrs Glass Monroe had a son, Walter Lee in 1863 then she died in
1864.
Napoleon and John Marshall were killed in MS, perhaps in a RR riot in Water
Valley, where several of the Monroe brothers worked after the war.
Sarah, James, Napoleon, Juliette, Caroline, William, Joseph, Barney,
Blanche, Robert, Jefferson, and Walter came to TX about 1870.
