My grandmother was in a similar situation years ago. We were able to locate
her on the 1920 census, and it was accepted as proof by the social security
administration and by the state of Mississippi for the purpose of issuing a
birth certificate. We also had her marriage license, but it was not needed.
They accepted the census data even though on that census she was living with
her aunt and uncle and had their last name instead of hers.

My other grandmother was allowed to get a birth certificate from the state
using the birth certificates of her own children plus her marriage license.

another tack might be to call your local tv station...they might give lots
of help and publicity to this kind of outrage

Maybe some of you can help us in finding this info.

A blind 91 year old local aunt is going to have to prove that she is a U.S.
citizen, or else they are telling her that she will be cut off Medicare,
etc. and that would put her in a terrible situation.

She cannot produce a photo ID because she have never had driver's license
and never had any reason for a photo ID. She does not have a birth
certificate, and at 91, does not have anyone who can sign an affidavit as to
the place where she was born. Her 102 year old sister has done this but with
her memory lapse, we don't know that they will accept that if they question
her. We have not been able to produce any Bible records with her listed.

We've gone to the 1914 census and it has her name spelled "Golie G." rather
than "Gola G.". The 1920 census has it spelled "G. Gurtrudge" rather than
G. Gertrude". Since both spellings are incorrect we are not sure they are
going to accept that.

Do any of you good friends have any other suggestions. She is in desperate
need for help.

Thanks and have a great day.
