Corinthian Clippings for 1966
BEARS, CHICKS, Ys MEN WIN IN YMCA ACTION
One Don Blasingame League game and two Southern League games were played
at the YMCA field yesterday.
In the Southern League, the Crackers only got one base hit off Phil
Hardwick in losing to the Bears 9-3. Mike Glisson took the loss for the
Crackers.
For the Bears, Randy Davis led the attack with a double. Mike Dobbins,
Mike Latch, Gary Davis and Jerry Robertson all had singles for the
winners.
Randy Odle had the only hit off Hardwick, a single in the third inning.
Leading hitter for the Chicks was Steve McClure with two for three, a
double and a single. Mike Mills had one for two, a single.
The Ys Men trailed until the bottom of the sixth inning when they came
up with three runs.
They scored, when Frank Dalton led off with a single and raced to second
as Deaton got on on an error. The Civitans pitcher, David Roberts got
the next two batters, Stanley and Miller on a ground ball and a strike
out but James Isbell hit a long double scoring the tying runs. On a bad
throw he went to third base and scored the winning run on Howard
Andersons single.
Winning pitcher was Howard Anderson, David Roberts took the loss.
Leading hitters for the Ys Men were Howard Anderson with three for
three and James Isbell had two for three, a single and double.
For the Civitans, David Roberts had a double in three trips and Danny
Rowsey had one for three a single.
ROCKETS PLAY ABERDEEN TWO AT FAIRGROUNDS SUNDAY
The Corinth Rockets, assured of a place in the State Semi-Pro Baseball
Tournament will play Aberdeen at the Fairgrounds Sunday in a
doubleheader that could pull their 5-7 league record up to .500.
Manager Vernest Isbell said he would probably start with righthander
Larry Barnes and Ronnie Hardin, a hard-throwing lefthander. As for the
rest of the lineup Isbell said, "I have no idea who will start. We will
probably use every man on the roster in the two games, getting them
ready for the State tournament."
PERRY, TEAMS WITH THOMPSON IN COURT WIN
Another first round match in the Hillandale Country Clubs Tennis
Tournament was played yesterday as Bo Perry and Bob Thompson took two
straight sets from Lamar Wadlington and Arthur Boren, 7-5, 6-4.
Perry and Thompson will now face Hal Anderson and Buddy Biggers sometime
next week in the semi-finals match.
SCOUT TROOP 27 SPENDING WEEK AT YOCONA
Troop 27 of the First Presbyterian Church of Corinth is spending the
week at Camp Yocona. The Scout Master is Bobby Worsham, Assistant Scout
Master Bill Adams and Chairman of the Troop Committee, Bob Anderson.
Scouts attending are: Lamar Wadlington, Gregg Moore, Danny Gardner,
Rickey McAuther, Danny McAuther, Bill Anderson, John Anderson, Bobby
Sentell, Tim Gibbons, Bob Gatlin, Jimmy Hill, Roy Ward, Larry Griffith,
Steve Holly, Bill Adams and Jim Myers.

PVT. CHARLES GRAVES-Fort Gordon, GA
Pvt. Charles R. Graves, son of M/M Horace R. Graves, 1602 Shiloh Road,
Corinth, completed eight weeks of military police training at the Army
Training Center, Fort Gordon, GA, recently.
Graves training included instruction in civil and military law, traffic
control, map reading, prisoner-of-war control and self-defense.
The 21-year-old soldier entered the Army in February 1966 and completed
basic combat training at Fort Polk, LA.
He is a 1963 graduate of Corinth High School.
