You might examine the slave schedules for 1860 Warren County MS for the names of slave owners. The schedule lists the owner's name and then usually gives the age and gender of each slave. If you find slaveowners with surnames similar to the surname adopted by your ancestors, this may provide you with clues. These slave schedules are available online at Ancestry.com, and perhaps in other places.
