Thanks for your reply. The family spells the name Griffin so I am using that spelling even though George Griffen was the way the surname was spelled on the 1880 census. I believe the middle name is Washington. However, he named his son William. This George is listed as born in Texas in 1855, and on the census his parents are shown as born in Texas. I cannot locate George anywhere else, especially the 1860 or 1870 census. He was living in Washington Co. in 1880. I believe he died young, before the 1900 census. I don't think Mississippi kept death records much before 1900. With no 1890 census I have not been able to locate any other information about this George. To answer your question:
I don't believe the George you found is related to this George.
He married Mary Shrader. She was born in Alabama as were her parents. Thanks. Marcia
