Subject: Hanson - circa 1927 Mississippi River flood

I am searching for a Mr. Hanson who may have been a foreman on a sand bag crew during the Great Mississippi River flood in 1927. I believe he would have been in the Greenville area, and that my grandfather, William L. Smith, may have been on his crew.

I read a book about the flood that stated the crew members working during the flood had the name of their foreman written on the back collars of their shirts. My grandfather is known to have worn shirts with the last name "Hanson" on them.

I would greatly appreciate any information concerning this possibility. Believe he may have been on the 1920 and maybe the 1930 census for Washington County, MS. My grandfather, William L. Smith, was the son of a German immigrant, and was born 1890 in Ohio. He was working for the railroad there in Washington County, MS in 1920 and lived in Greenville.

Regards,

Willie Smith
