Just spoke with Jerry Hansen the curator of:

Marcus Daly Historical Society
401 E. Commercial St.
Anaconda, MT 58711

The Museum is located in the basement of the old City Hall. Unfortunately they need more space but are relegated to a small area in the basement. There is no funding for the Society and Mr. Hansen has volunteered his time for many years staffing the museum and helping people find records of their relatives and information about the area. It is truly a labor of love for him. He is probably the most knowledgeable person in Anaconda regarding the history of the area.

I was interested in finding out who would have moved my Grandparent's store from Ash Street out to Opportunity abt 1913-1914. He said there was a man called Russian George from Opportunity, who moved houses on his old truck. This was during the WWI period. He never heard his last name. Does this sound familiar to anybody?

Also he mentioned that the A Hill used to be called Burnt Hill because there was a fire in 1897 that burned all the vegetation and the vegetation didn't grow back until abt the 1950s.

Mr. Hansen has assisted in several PBS documentaries about the area. He also was given the Anaconda Copper Company records. Several years ago I found my father's record (his Mom had to sign for him because he was under age. Also found my Grandfather Dowdall's employment record.

Does anybody know of any institution that might have grants available to help supply a computer and Internet service for the museum or help relocate it to larger quarters? Just a thought.
