Billings pioneer Oscar W. Baltrusch Sr. was known as "Mr. Sugar" to his
co-workers at Great Western Sugar Co., where he retired from the sales
and traffic department in 1959 after 38 years. Mr. Baltrusch, 92, of 1236
N. 31st St., died Monday in Deaconess Hospital after a stroke.

Born in New Ulm, Minn., a son of Carl and Amalia Baltrusch, he began work
as a post office clerk in 1908, transferred to Miles City in 1912 and to
Billings in 1914. In 1914 he married Helen Gladys Sheppard in Billings.
Two of the last original homesteaders in Montana, they celebrated their
67th wedding anniversary last year.

A charter member of Al Bedoo Shrine Temple, Mr. Baltrusch played in the
original Al Bedoo Band and Oriental Band. He was a member of Masonic Lodge,
Scottish Rite Bodies, White Shrine and New Ulm, Minn., Junior Pioneers.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Oscar W. Baltrusch of 2117 Fairway
Drive; a daughter, Betty B. Baltrusch of 1226 N. 31st St.; four grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Smith Terrace Gadrens Chapel with
burial in Terrace Gardens Memorial Estates.
