Dear Tim, I saw your posting and found it quite interesting. My father is Raymond Gray Root, his mother was Lillie Gray and his father was Jasper Root. Jasper's mother was Rosanna Margarite Averill and Rosanna's mother was Margaretta Dupy (d/o Francis Dupy and Caroline Hardy) of New York. Are you related to these people and if so please let me know. As for the Grays. They were from Machias, Maine and along with extended members of the family moved slowly westward around 1830 settling in Iowa, Ohio, Wisconsin and eventually Minnesota where my father was born. Roy
