My family has a David Murphy (b. 1830) who married a Bridget Dugan (b. 1830). Am not sure if these two emigrated from Ireland, but believe they came to Vermont and raised a family. Son was John William Murphy (b. 1850, d. 1897) who married Ellen Cox (b. 1857 Bakersfield, VT. daughter of Phillip Cox and Bridget Brown, d. 1917, Hudson Falls, NY). John and Ellen had 9 children, one of whom is my grandmother. There were two boys, Edward and John. I know this doesn't help in your search for Patrick, but does put a family of Murphy's in Vermont and up-state NY around 1850 - 1875. Where there is one Murphy, there may be Patrick.
