Surname: MURPHY, OHERN, OHARRON, CRANEY, SWEENEY, BANER, BOWER, WARD, GLENN
-------------------------
I am looking for information on JAMES PATRICK MURPHY (my ggg grandparent)
born abt 1827 in County Wexford, Ireland. Lived in Illinois, Iowa, and
Nebraska. I believe I have found him in Tecumseh. Tombstone inscription
lists years as 1827-May 27, 1884. I have two wonderful volunteers helping
me track it down in Nebraska. He married CATHERINE AHERN (may be spelled
O'Harron) in Iowa. Her inscription
indicates 1821-Nov 8, 1895. CATHERINE was born in County Cork, Ireland.
Have a newspaper reference on her indicating she died at her daughters
home in Kansas, but was brought back to Tecumseh, NE for burial.
JAMES PATRICK MURPHY and CATHERINE AHERN had six children (all who lived
in Johnson County, NE during 1860 per census but they don't appear on 1870
Census)
1. LAWRENCE MURPHY (my gg grandfather) born 7/27/1848 in Freeport IL and
died 1920. Believe he is buried in Tecumseh, NE. ( He married MARY CRANEY
8/3/1876 in Hamburg IA or maybe Tarkio MO. She is also buried in Tecumseh.
(MARY CRANEY was born in Ireland).
2. CHARLES MURPHY no known dates but think he lived in Bertrand, NE; married
MARY ANN SWEENEY. They are believed to have 11 children, one named KATHERINE
MURPHY who married WILLIAM BANER; second child was JAMES MURPHY who married
ETHEL BOWER, both lived in Bertrand, NE. Not sure on
other children.
3. MARGARET MURPHY born Davenport Iowa, died 1936, married FRANK WARD who
died 1946.
4. ELIZABETH MURPHY, bured in Nebraska City, NE. Married BERNARD GLENN.
Think they lived in Bertrand, NE.
5. CATHERINE MURPHY - died 1895, don't have any other info on her.
6. ELLEN MURPHY- Became Sister Agnes, a Benedictine Nun, buried Atchison,
Kansas.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin
