Otis,
My guess is that that Byrd is the son of Simon II, maybe brother of Mark
A. Simon II's brother Arthur in Bute Co. had a grandson named Bird
also. There were at least 2 other Bird Murphys later, including another
William Bird Murphy, & Gray Bird Murphy. Simon I supposedly married
Elizabeth Bettie Byrd, which is probably where it started. There were a
bunch of James' in this bunch too, and other Simons, Sion & William
Murphys. Quite confusing around 1780-1810. Let me know if you connect.
